James Edward Langan Jr., 70, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 12, 1947, son of the late, James Edward Sr. and the late Rita Marie Langan, Mountain Top. James attended Wilkes-Barre area schools, graduated from Meyers High School in 1965, attended Penn State University and resided in Wilkes-Barre.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend whom will be forever missed. He lived and breathed Penn State football, was highly competitive – even against a 3-year-old, but was never more proud to boast about his children and even more so, his grandchildren. He was a great designer, contractor, salesman, leader and mentor to more than just his family. To us he was also a great comedian, magician and doctor who can mend anything from a broken heart to broken bones. He was truly the patriarch of our family. We will try out best to step up into his big shoes.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Haas, Hanover Twp.; and sister Mary Alice Saitta, Exeter.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie Patricia Langan, Wilkes-Barre; five children: son, David Langan, Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Rebecca Reynolds and husband, Jason Reynolds, Kingston; son, Michael Langan and wife, Melissa Langan, Chesapeake City, Md.; son, Daniel Langan and wife, Sherri Langan, Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Sarah Masulis, Kingston; sister, Rita Langan, Mountain Top; brother, William J. Langan and wife, Cathy, Wilkes-Barre; and his pride and joy and testament to his mentorship as the patriarch of this family, his 11 grandchildren, Emmalie Langan, Cambridge, Mass.; James Langan, New York City, N.Y.; Michael Masulis, Kingston; Lauren Masulis, Kingston; Sarah Langan, Wilkes-Barre; Jude Langan, Chesapeake City, Md.; Wyatt Reynolds, Kingston; Liam Langan, Chesapeake City, Md.; Andrew Langan, Wilkes-Barre; Eileen Langan, Chesapeake City, Md.; and Evelyn Reynolds, Kingston.
A celebration of his life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
