Glen F. Sweitzer, 77, of York, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2016, at home. He and his wife, Mary J. (Long) Sweitzer, were married for 55 years.
Born in Hampton, VA the son of the late Alvie Howard and Martha Elton Lewis Sweitzer, he was a 1957 graduate of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. He then completed college courses and classes at John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. He was employed at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, Laurel, MD working on Radar systems was involved in the space program including satellite launches and the worlds first satellite navigation system, “Transit” and worked on first rechargeable heart pacemaker. He enjoyed both road and mountain bicycling and participated in the “Cycle Across Maryland” bike tour for several years. He also enjoyed Fishing, Family, barbecuing and just having a good time. He always hoped for a family that would show love, support and concern for each other. He felt this dream came true with his wife, four children, and grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters Glenda S. Shea (Tim) and Deanne M. Slifker (Steve); two sons Gary F. Sweitzer (Susan) and Brad M. Sweitzer, Sr. (Wanda); grandchildren Brian Shea, Brendan Shea, Jennifer Hokanson (Kenny), Adam Sweitzer (Kate), Morgan Sweitzer, Cameron Sweitzer, Jillian Sweitzer, Jesse Slifker, Carleigh Slifker, Elliott Slifker, Kristen Sweitzer, Brad Jr. Sweitzer, Connor Sweitzer, Natalia Sweitzer, Tara White and Heather White; great grandchildren Jenson Hokanson, Kendan Hokanson, Nolan Sweitzer, Adelyn Sweitzer and Kellan Sweitzer.
He was preceded in death by a sister Martha (Sue) Sweitzer and a brother James H. Sweitzer.
A visitation with family followed by a Celebration Memorial will be held Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00am in Grace Baptist Church, 3920 East Prospect Road, York, PA 17406, to be officiated by the Rev. Steven Warner. Interment with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA at a later date.
